This item is sold each. If you need a pair to replace both sides on your motor, then please add a quantity of (2) to your cart.
Original OEM factory carbon brush for the model D3A, D2A, D2, and D Rainbow. This brush is installed through the back of the holder and held in place by a plastic cap that screws into the holder.
* SELECT OPTION: This item needs to be "seated" for proper life expectancy. We use a variable transformer (variac) to seat the brushes. If you are unable, we offer this as an optional service.
- Not properly seating in the carbon brushes can cause brush and commutator damage, leading to costly maintenance and downtime
- By properly seating in the carbon brushes, it allows you to use rated current almost immediately
- Change all carbon brushes at one time
- Vacuum excess carbon dust to prevent from reaching machine windings and bearings
The M396 Seating Stone is only used to "clean up" the commutator of the armature, and not meant to "seat" the brushes. If you are not exactly sure how to "seat" your carbon brushes, the service fee that we charge is well worth it in the long run.
If you do not seat the motor brushes, you can expect about a one year life before they wear out.

"These brushes are a high quality item and sized perfectly to spec of originals. I seated these on my D by removing the inspection caps in motor casting, (earlier D and D2s have these caps). I slowly ramped the motor up in speed using a variac and then stuck my seating stone through inspection holes. I replaced the inspection hole caps and the motor is running fantastic. This vacuum gets used twice a week and it's doing great. You can also order these brushes already seated which is nice if you don't have the tools to seat these."

"Used brushes are the only ones available and these were in good shape. Our 40ish year old vacuum is back to work."
